Malini Narayanan, M.D.
Dr. Malini Narayanan, is the Chief of Neurosurgery at University of Maryland PG Trauma Center, second busiest trauma center in the state. After receiving her undergraduate degree from University of Massachusetts (Amherst, Mass), Dr. Malini Narayanan furthered her education through the master’s degree program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Ma) in Electrical Engineering working on a retinal prosthesis for patients with Retinitis Pigmentosa. Her experience spurred her interest in medicine, completing her medical degree at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine (Chicago, Ill.).
Her relentless pursuit of excellence and love for neurosurgery led to her neurosurgical training at the Brigham and Women’s Program and Children’s Hospital, which is the second largest teaching hospital of the Harvard Medical School and the largest hospital of the Longwood Medical and Academic area in Boston, Massachusetts. There, she earned numerous accolades including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Resident Research Award. Returning to the University of Chicago, Dr. Narayanan augmented her surgical skills through a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Comer’s Children’s Hospital (Chicago, Ill.), where she also completed her neurosurgical residency as chief resident. She is an active member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Board of Neurological Surgeons, MedChi, and Society for Minimally Invasive Spine (SMISS) and LadyDocs Corner Cafe.
She is the recipient of numerous awards throughout her career including Top Doctor (Neurosurgery), America’s Top Surgeon and the Washingtonian Top Doctor (spinal surgery).
Dr. Narayanan’s neurosurgical interests include spinal anomalies in connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers Danlos syndrome, cervical and lumbar spine disease, and brain tumors, adults with neurosurgical pediatric disorders. She has presented around the world and published over 25 peer review articles.
She enjoys her personal time with her family and friends, playing tennis, learning golf, yoga, swimming and travel.
